Expect the Best. Don't Settle for Inferior Reports.

Our vision is to create the best Cerner CCL reports in the industry. To do this, we have spent a number of years developing techniques that provide our clients with reports, labels and extracts that meet the following requirements:

  • Accurate output of report data.
  • Quick report run times and low system usage.
  • Visually stunning appearance (fonts, lines, shading).
  • Logical placement of data elements on reports.
  • Easy to maintain code.

If it's Not Right, it's Not Worth Printing.

How confident are you in your CCL reports? Is the correct data printing? Is all of the data printing?

These are questions we hear often from new clients who are looking for answers to why their reports are showing incorrect results.

Our team are CCL specialists which means we have spent years working with both the CCL language and the Cerner database. Our knowledge of the Cerner database gives us an advantage in coding reports that look in the correct tables.

Our experience with CCL reinforces our database knowledge by using techniques for testing and analyzing the data from the Cerner back-end that cannot be done through front-end tools.

Tired of Waiting for your Reports to Run?

Too many times have we heard clients complaining about reports that take excessively long times to run. Often, these reports can be tuned with minimal changes and see a 400% - 600% improvement in execution speed. The most common culprit for poor performing reports is improper use of indexes.

Additionally, we have developed programming techniques that further improve performance of reports as well as create easier to maintain source code.

By using our performance improvement techniques, clients have seen some report go from a 40 minute run time to under 30 seconds.

Appearance Makes a Difference.

Logical layout of report data elements and the visual appearance of a report account for a large part of how well an end user community will accept a report and how easily it will affect and improve their daily workflow.

Many times, a programmer desperate to complete a report will place text in odd places just to make it fit. At Precision Healthcare Solutions, we think through the problem and come up with a solution that will make sense to the end users.

Equally as important as logical placement of data on a report is the visual appearance of a report. Is the font used easy to read? Have lines, boxes and shading been used in appropriate places to make the content of the report easier to use?

Case Study - Pharmacy Labels on an Intermec Printer

One of our clients had Pharmacy labels developed by a competitor. Besides a series of data accuracy related issues on the labels, our client was concerned that their existing labels (figure 1) were difficult to read. The standard fonts supported in Cerner for the Intermec line of printers are poor and led to many of our clients concerns.

Using our deep knowledge of the device itself, we decided to abandon the Cerner provided DIO commands and code directly for the printer. The Intermec printers have a larger and easier to read font base than Cerner and direct coding of the printer allowed us to code the label shown in figure 2.

Clean Code Saves Time & Money.

Code maintenance is a topic that is not usually addressed by CCL contract programmers. To the Precision Healthcare Solutions team, it is a key element to keeping our clients happy.

Our team uses a series of programming techniques that promote clean programming habits. The result are CCL scripts that are smaller and easier to maintain than scripts that have not used our techniques.

Whether you choose to have our team maintain the code in the future; or your own programming staff; the cost of maintaining our CCL scripts will be less because of our programming techniques.

Case Study - Physician Rounds Report

One of our more popular report requests have been in the form of a Physician Rounds report. This report uses the Patient List functionality in PowerChart to print a list of patients that include information from current census, custom PowerForms, Allergies, Labs, Radiology and Pharmacy.

This report clearly demonstrates what a clean layout coupled with proper lines and shading can do to separate data into easy readable content. For any specific patient list, this report collects all of the above information and outputs the report results in an average of 20-30 seconds.
